Wheeling Park High School Reviews

I am a student at wheeling park high school and can honestly admit that the music program is stupendous. They teachers in the program have compassion for each one of their students and always try their best to give a fair chance to everyone, especially the choir directors Mrs. Mitch and Mrs. Garret, who receive kids from a variety of musical backgrounds. The music department at Wheeling Park is in and of itself its own little family. Being both a strings player and a choir member I believe I can say that the program here has helped me get into different ensembles such as All-State and the Wheeling Youth Symphony and the life lessons that I have gained about hard work and determination will last throughout my life. Thank you.

This school honestly is terrible! Coming from a student who witnesses how teachers play favorites witht the rich kids and the star athletes. Its pathetic. I asked a teacher to write me a reference letter and I constantly had to remind him for a month and he never wrote me one, even after he promised several times. But he never had a problem writing a few for the more priviliged and wealthier students. This delayed me from turning in my scholarship application because I had to go to another teacher at the last minute and wait for them to get time to write me one in which they did, thank you! Can I also point out that the school food is disgusting. I never had such nasty food anywhere in my life, I noticed that more and more students are beginning to bring their own lunch and paying more!!

my husband attended WP, my children attend WP, and i have worked at WP in the past. my husband has a well paying job in a community that doesn't have many. my children have excelled in the colleges and career choices they have made. i attribute this to WP. In the past WP did not impress me. consolidation was hard, but they perservered. i hope Park continues to imipress by improving it's technology and adjusting it's science curriculum. we have already seen some changes (i.e. SMART board in some classrooms.) i would also like to see them expand the school and fix up the track, expand the music department, add more parking. all in all , my famil is proud to call themselves 'PATRIOTS'.

I attended WPHS and now my son does. I reviewed private and other options and still found that teachers at WPHS were the most credible and highly educated, many having Masters or above. The curriculum is what a child makes of it - and though tough, fair and far more advanced then other schools in the area. My child is unique (goth) and has not one issue of discrimination as I heard from other area schools, he's on the high honor roll and appreciated - not a number in such a large school. I am very satisfied with efforts of the OCSB to continue to provide quality education! After all, the reality is, our kids get what they and we as parents put into it!

I would never send my children there because of the teachers have no time for the children and it is very clickish.

I have had children at Wheeling Park for six years. It has been a very positive experience. The quality of teaching is excellent. My children have had only three poor teachers in six years. Park has the best Language Arts teachers. My daughter entered college this year very well prepared. The administration is very accessible. I have always been called back promptly, and problems have been dealt with in a very professional, caring manner. There are numerous areas for parents to become involved in. Unfortunately, many parents choose not to participate. The school welcomes parent involvement. The availability of Fine Arts classes and extracurricular activities is tremendous. Park has an incredible Fine Arts department that is unsurpassed in the Ohio valley.

Overall I think that WPHS is a decent school, only because they offer a variety of classes, and have so many opportunities that present themselves to your children. Like most schools some teachers are more academically knowledgeable than others.

There are some excellent teachers at this school, but some really poor ones also. Unfortunately, those responsible for discipline play favorites and the teachers' children, star athletes, etc. get preferential treatment. It's a great school if your child is a 'star' but for the average and above average child, it is difficult. My son spends much too much time watching movies in his 'honors' classes, submits work that is never returned (or returned weeks later with no comments. There are too many multiple-choice tests and true-false tests that are easy to grade for the teachers, but not a good learning experience for students who will have to write essays in college. As a parent who initially tried to get involved, I gave up when I found that the only parents who have a say are those who make a lot of money...I wish my kids went to private school instead!

My son has been a student at WPHS for 4 years. He has a physical disability and has never been made fun of. His academic achievements here have been better than I could ever imagine. He has, also been a member of the band & has been accepted by all. I feel it's a wonderful school with alot to offer our teens, and prepares them well for college.

The teachers are not good. They make a huge deal out of the honors courses and act like they are college classes and that the average person cannot handle them. They really put down the students, and their mostly on their own, which to some is good, but even if they want a little advice from an adult, it's hard to get.

So far, so good. I'm overall happy with the school. The teacher quality could be better, and it is hard to get a hold of your guidance counselor, because they care more of the upperclassmen. I like how there is a student body of almost 2,000. Each day is different, and it is fun to see the diverse groups of people. Fairness in this school isn't great. The people that should get caught breaking the rules exceedingly don't. Innocent people get blamed a lot. The choice of classes is great. Best art and music programs you can imagine for a public school. You can take almost anything you want. It's a clean school. The halls are crowded and it is hard to maneuver around between classes. I give it 4 stars.

I am soon to be a senior at Park and I couldn't be happier anywhere else. The school has so much to offer. The staff is great; almost everyone is willing to help with whatever your need may be. The courses are also amazing. You can take just about anything you could imagine- from advanced placement classes to nursing, theater to cooking, autobody to German. Also, Wheeling Park offers a variety of extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, and programs. Aside from a few hitches that every school faces now and then, Park is an excellent school.

I am a 2002 graduate of Wheeling Park High School. I did not like going to that school at all. I could never really talk to my counselor by herself without other students who were skipping class being in her office and she never really would talk to me or even listen to me with what i had to say. I didnt like most of my teachers that I had because i didnt think that they would actually help you one on one if you needed it. The principals never really took care of anything either like people stalking and harrassing you at school.

I am a 1986 graduate of Park and i loved it there. I now have a son at Park and soon to have my daughter there, Ms. Vargo is an Outstanding principal, along with Mr. McCardle, Mr. Oglebe. and the rest of the staff. My son does Football, Wrestling and Baseball, He loves it. The coaches are great and i love how they are always keeping up on the kids grades. I'm excited to get my daughter up there and in the sports program. I believe every school has it problems, not just Park. Every parent is not going to be satisfied. For me i have 2 great kids academically and athlectically. Thanks, A former student, and now parent of a proud WPHS student.

This school is allright...John Urbanik is my favorute teacher and I love his German class. John Urbanik is my hero, and I look up to him, he gives me advice, and helps me through the rough times. I love You John.

I attended Wheeling Park High School for 4 years, I was a decent B-C student, I did my homework & tried my best to follow the classes. I asked for extra help in some classes & was told it was my responsibility to learn the material. I eventually gave up on it. When I was a Jr, I was pregnant with my 1st child & was actually told by a teacher that I did not deserve special treatment & was not permitted to use the restroom. My parents had to go to the school & speak with counselors & principals because I was not permitted to use the restroom without them speakingwith my parents. There is discrimination, ignorance & a lack of caring in that school. Mrs Harden is about the only teacher there who actually cares about her students! If I had another choice, my children would go elsewhere!

I am a Junior at Wheeling Park and I couldn't be more happy with the education I recieve here. I feel very comfortable here. Many of the teachers are personable and always willing to listen and help the best way possible. I am encouraged by my classmates inside and outside of school. I am especailly inspired by our music program which offers students a chance to be apart of group of people who care about you. If you have never been to Festival of Sound during Christmastime, I highly recommend going. Not only is Christ glorified through the songs, but the atmosphere is simply amazing. Young and old alike join together for a night of relaxation and celebration of Christmas. It ends with a roaring Halleluah chorus! It will be held at the Wes Banco Arena this year, so get your tickets as soon as you can!

Five out of seven of my childs teachers told me that they just don't have time to do anything other than teach their classes. The counceler never returned any of my calls. Teachers (not all) have a very bad attitude. In fact one teacher was outright rude and also wrote notes on a progress report that is very Unapproperiate! If your child has alot of potiential I would advise that you find another school.

WPHS has so many opportunities for the students. I feel that the teachers and staff go the extra miles for the students. WPHS has always been very clean and well maintained. The school offers the students an excellant education in a safe enviornment. I would rate this school very high and congradulate the staff and students who give 100%
